How free shipping profit is compared

- Revenue A = Item Price (no free shipping) + Buyer-Paid Shipping
- Fees A = Revenue A × (Transaction Fee Rate + Payment Processing Rate) + Fixed Fees + Listing Fee
- Profit A = Revenue A − Production Cost − Shipping Cost − Ad Cost − Fees A
- Scenario B (free shipping):
- Revenue B = Item Price (free shipping)
- Fees B = Revenue B × (Transaction Fee Rate + Payment Processing Rate) + Fixed Fees + Listing Fee
- Profit B = Revenue B − Production Cost − Shipping Cost − Ad Cost − Fees B
- Difference = Profit B − Profit A

If the free-shipping item price is higher than the old buyer total, the fee base increases. If it is lower, the fee base decreases and so may profit.

Common mistakes
- 1.Not replacing the full buyer-paid shipping amount — if your old item price was $20 and buyers paid $4.99 shipping, a $22.99 free-shipping price reduces your revenue before costs.
- 2.Forgetting that 'free shipping' means you still pay the POD shipping cost — you absorb the shipping cost to Printify or Printful regardless of what the buyer is charged for delivery.
- 3.Assuming free shipping always increases sales — Etsy may give a visibility or ranking benefit, but conversion depends on your displayed price, photos, reviews, and competition relative to other listings.
- 4.Not comparing profit per order — a higher item price with free shipping might yield the same net profit per order but result in fewer sales if the higher displayed price deters buyers.
- 5.Ignoring offsite ads impact — if your free-shipping price raises the total order amount, offsite ads fees (12–15% of the total) may also increase on attributed sales.
